You won't get far in this business, if you don't have the background and understand what Flippa is all about. Flippa is a marketplace where website developers can sell their websites. Flippa emerged from the buying/selling section of the Sitepoint Marketplace. It offers a great backend and from my experience, is far better than any other marketplace currently on net... given you know how to use it.
If you aren't already registered, DON'T create a account now (read the next section before doing so). However, have a look at some of the websites that are selling. Have a look at the featured websites section and check out some of the websites there.
Flippa is what I would call a “mid range” website marketplace and for this reason attracts a more “mid range” seller. If you had a good look, you'll notice that many of the websites are template style websites with almost no traffic or revenue and all are "ready" to start earning money! The first question that comes to mind is why the seller is selling this website and why he doesn't keep the website himself.
Legitimate sellers do use Flippa, and you occasionally will find a gem, but when you attract such a large market (anyone who has a website they’d like to sell), you are going to have to spend some serious time sorting the wheat from the chaff.
The websites that we will sell will also be template style websites BUT they will have great traffic and decent revenue and great income potential. How could we lose? You should be very excited at this point. They will not be garbage like many of the websites on flippa.
Here are some general tactics or tricks that I've learned through my experience. I won't get too much into detail but will mention them briefly.
Register an attractive and Unique Username Your username can be a personal name or it can sound more professional. Don't make it hideous like Anita1233. Make it eye¬catching and put some effort into it.
Increase Your Trust Rating This is much easier than it sounds. Simply verifu your phone number, add your facebook account, LinkedIn account, and that's all!
Upload An Avatar Go to google image and find yourself a good avatar. Even better, if it realtes yo the username you picked. Check mine out.
Sell a complete full¬functional website There are people selling domain names on flippa. This is a good strategy too but if you have great domain name, why not develop it and sell it for much more.
Create A Attractive Listing Title My listings usually sound like "PR5 directory, $80/month adsense, 80,000 Alexa". I've mentioned the income, traffic, and importance of the website. I will get a lot more views and bids because of this.
Show Proof of Traffic Actually, no. For the websites we'll be selling you don't really need to upload Analytics. However, I have taken screenshots of my statcounter account at times and attached the screenshot as a prof.
Definitely Attach Proof of Revenue In the end it all comes down to revenue. Attach a screenshot of your adsense account, feature links, and all that. More on this later.
Make listing 3 days+ I make most of my listing only 4 days long. Some people argue without reason that, no matter what, a listing should be at least 7 days long. Some people make it a month, 6 months, a yeay, or even longer. For our purpose, 4 days is probaly more than enough.
When to start the auction and when to buy upgrades? I've noticed that Wednesdays and Sunday afternoons, ther's a lot of traffic. The best time to buy a upgrade would probable be around noon (between 12¬2 pm).
Start Auction at $1 and No Reserve Do not discourage people from viewing your auction, by starting your auction at $500 or something. The more bids your auction gets, the more active it will be.
Automatically accept bids I've never had a probalem with any buyer until now so I don't see a reason why you should need to verify people's bids.
Acept Escrow payments We have no reason not to. We're not trying to scam people here so might as well accept escrow. I profer paypal though, since escrow will take much longer but it's nice to enable it to avoid any suspicion.
Set a Decent "Buy It Now" price If you're claiming $80 profit, make the BIN about $850. Don't make it $10,000 or something.
Add Tags This is a easy one. Tag your site with adsense, directory, and phpld. It might pull a few extra views to the site. Most people forget to do this. You may Take a look at Flippa at flippa dot kom.
